Third Bridge Over the Creek
Dubai will begin the construction of the world's longest arch bridge over the creek called the Sixth Crossing in March 2008 to be completed by 2012 that will connect the new residential and commercial real estate projects in the city. The total cost of the project is around Dh3 billion, including Dh2.5 billion for the new bridge. The bridge will be 1.6-km long, 64 m wide and 15 m above the water level. It will have 12 lanes and track for the Green Line of Dubai Metro. It will have a capacity of around 20,000 vehicles per hour.
The Sixth Crossing will link Al Jaddaf and Business Bay at Bur Dubai with the road separating ‘The Lagoons' and Dubai Festival City. It will also provide entry and exit points for the Creek Island. The new road network in the areas will interlink Sheikh Rashid Road, Oud Maitha Road, Ras Al Khor Road and the Sixth Crossing. The bridge will have a metro station and abra station.
The Sixth Crossing will be constructed in 6 different phases. The first stage includes construction works of the bridge at Dubai Creek while the 2nd Phase will see the building of intersections at Deira to serve ‘The Lagoon' and Dubai Festival City. The 3rd Phase includes implementation of intersections at Deira extending from Nad Al Hamar up to Al Aweer Road while intersections in Bur Dubai will link the bridge with Business Bay Crossing in the 4th Phase. The 5th Phase includes construction of intersections in Bur Dubai linking the Sixth Crossing with Sheikh Rashid Road and the Al Garhoud Bridge while the construction of intersections in Bur Dubai connecting Ras Al Khor with Oud Metha Road and the Parallel Roads will be in the 6th Phase.
