The Majlis - The Desert Miracle
That was the name given to the Emirates Golf Club, Dubai when it became the first all-grass championship golf course in the gulf region, way back in 1988.
And so it remains to this day, even though many have followed in its footsteps. His Highness General Sheikh Mohamed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum's brainchild still inspires awe amongst all who play its verdant green golf courses, as well as those who simply visit its unique and ageless clubhouse.
The ageless design of clubhouse reflects a Bedouin tented village with seven gleaming white concrete and glass structures, complemented by the natural look of the off-course areas of the golf course, where desert flora and fauna have flourished and established themselves over the years.
The traditions of Arabia are not restricted to the design of the clubhouse. The oldest tradition of all - Arabian hospitality - is the foundation upon which the successful development and reputation of Emirates Golf Club has been built. For members and visitors alike, a welcome unmatched anywhere in the world, is guaranteed.
The Wadi
EMIRATES Golf Club held their Grand Opening day for the new Wadi by Faldo Golf Course, designed by the six-time major winner Nick Faldo, on October 12 2006.
Nick took time out of his busy schedule to inspect the course, while also having time to conduct a clinic for junior golfers.
In the afternoon, Nick officially opened the course with a drive from the 1st tee, which was marked with a commemorative plaque. After a long 18 months and a memorable day the Wadi is finally ready for everyone's enjoyment.
A par 72, the new course is proving to be as popular as ever and will definitely lure players to the challenge of its 7,328 yards.
Faldo's trademark tees and bunkers have combined with the naturally rugged terrain to create a unique golfing experience, with a natural wadi running the length of the course that comes in to play without being classified as a hazard.
