Fujairah |
Emirate of Fujairah, one of the seven emirates forming the United Arab Emirates, witnessed a rapid rate of economic and social development and tourism activities under the wise guidance of H.H.Sheikh Hamad Bin Mohammad Al Sharqi, Supreme Council member and ruler of Fujairah.
After the emirate had completed its infrastructure, it set out to implement its ambitious development plan to achieve the ideal exploitation of its resources and to extend the base of industrial, commercial, and agricultural production.
The historical importance of Fujairah goes back to the period that preceded birth of the christ (peace be upon him), it was known in the old ages as land of the sea giants, and was the first home for immigrants who came from the southeast of Arabian Peninsula and who were later known as the Phoenicians. Some of those immigrants came from Yemen after the collapse of Ma'areb Dam, and of whom the Sharqis tribes descend.
Fujairah is one of the most attractive tourist and travel destination in the region, and has a lot of attractions and activities to offer. A paradise for watersports enthusiasts of all kinds, the warm crystal waters harbour a marine life rich in variety making it particularly good for diving and fishing.
For the more adventurous, off-road driving through desert and boulder strewn wadis provides vistas unrivaled in the country as startling emerald green date groves nestle between the towering Hajar peaks containing some of the oldest rocks in Arabia.
One of the most important activities and attractions is the Power Boat racing world championship, hosted in Fujairah every year in October and organized by Fujairah International Marine Club, and the Bull Butting, which is one of the major attractions in Fujairah can be seen every Friday.
