Moving to Dubai |
The United Arab Emirates has come a long way since its British presence left, and the seven emirates united to become one country in 1971.
Since that time, the desert sand has been replaced with greenery and architecturally magnificant buildings and mosques (masjids).
Unfortunately, many people still have misconceptions about the UAE and think that life here is how it was 20 or 30 years ago.

Cost of Living
Well there isn't any correct answer that will suit everyone.
You have to take into account the cost the property you will be living in, if your company is not paying for it, the cost of schooling for your children, if you have any, and the cost of the utilities, telephone bills, and food.
TV & Satellite
For home entertainment, your building may have an antenna, which you can connect your television to or else it will have a satellite dish, which you will need to connect to a decoder/receiver before connecting to your television.
Water & Electricity
Property utilities (water, electricity, and gas) are billed each month according to usage.
Electricity in the UAE is 220/240 volts which means that US appliances will require an adaptor. In order to get the utilities connected to your apartment or villa, you will need to go down to the city's utility provider, with your tenancy contract and a refundable depost of 1,000 or 2,000 dirhams.
Only water in Abu Dhabi and Dubai are completely clean and suitable for drinking, so individuals living in the cities rely on bottled water.
Postal service
Mail is Dubai is always delivered to a post office box address. Most expats usually use their company P.O Box but you can rent a private box from the central post office in Karama (tel: 3371500) for Dhs 210 per annum.
